PEBBLEDRIFT

Holiday Cottage in Charlestown, Cornwall, Pebbledrift

Pebbledrift Cottage

Visit our site at www.charlestownholidays.co.uk for full details

Our beautiful, granite fronted cottage has been designed to blend with the charming surroundings of the historic port of Charlestown. The cottage is one of a small group of seven cottages based around a central courtyard. It is 100 yards from the harbour and Charlestown's two beaches.

Pebbledrift Cottage is a well crafted and carefully thought out holiday home. Downstairs you will find two large, comfortable, bright bedrooms and a well appointed bathroom, whilst upstairs you will find a bright, spacious living area (with the possibility of sofa bed bringing the number of guests to six, please contact us for details), with clearly defined kitchen and dining areas, as well as a breakfast bar which is great for lounging around with your morning coffee and paper.

There is one private parking place, and additional parking is easy to find on the street.

You won’t need to get the car out to find somewhere good to eat, as within easy walking distance of the house there are two great pubs which serve food and great local ales, as well as another restaurant which specialises in locally caught fish. ‘Charlie’s’ across the road serves breakfasts, light meals and cream teas. You can buy great pasties at the village shop, and locally made ice creams.

There are craft shops, a gift shop and a gallery too. There is also a fascinating Shipwreck and Heritage Centre.

You can pick up the coast path in Charlestown, which offers some of the county's most spectacular view points.

Golfers are very well catered for too – Carlyon Bay golf course, Porthpean golf course and St Austell golf course are all just minutes away.

There is a sailing club at Porthpean, the next village along, and of course there is no shortage of beautiful beaches all within a short driving distance.

The Eden Project and The Lost Gardens of Heligan are just a short drive away, as are the towns of Mevagissey and Fowey.
St Austell, just a couple of minutes by car, has all local town amenities, including two 24 hour superstores.

Slightly further away, but still under an hour by car, are Padstow and Rick Stein’s restaurants, and Jamie Oliver’s ‘15’ in Newquay. In fact, Charlestown is in a great location to explore the whole of this beautiful county.

Outside, there is a sunny, enclosed, private courtyard garden. On the ground floor we have a spacious entrance hall, a double bedroom with a 5’ bed, and a twin bedroom. The bathroom has a powerful shower over the bath (with folding shower screen).

The first floor is open plan; the lounge area has two sofas; the dining area has a solid wood dining table and there is a very well-equipped kitchen with a breakfast bar. The kitchen is really well stocked with everything we think you will need; let us know if we missed anything!

Amenities: We have a fan oven with electric hob, fridge, freezer, wine fridge, toaster, microwave, Freesat television, DVD player, CD mini hifi, MP3 dock, dishwasher, washing machine, heated airer, hairdryer with diffuser, iron and ironing board, gas central heating and combi boiler for instant hot water.

Our lovely courtyard garden has a table and chairs, two loungers, a gas barbecue and a chiminea. There are outside lights for evening barbecues and drinks.

Bed linen provided. Towels not available.

Children are welcome, but please be advised that we have a low level window and an open staircase in the first floor living room. Sleeps up to 6, including the sofa bed.
Regretfully, we cannot accommodate pets.

If you have never before been to Charlestown, you have missed a real treat!

It has largely escaped development and remains one of the finest and most fascinating places on the Cornish coast.
Built in 1790, the village is home to an original Georgian working harbour; a small amount of china clay is still exported in an average of 30-40 ships a year. As a result, Charlestown retains both charm and identity.
The harbour is the home port for a famous collection of tall ships which are employed in film projects all over the world, as well as Charlestown itself being a popular location for films and television programmes. These have included ‘Persuasion’, ‘The Eagle has Landed’ and the 1990s version of ‘The Three Musketeers’. Watch out for ‘Creation’ in the autumn with Paul Bettany and Jennifer Connolly, a film made here recently about the early life of Charles Darwin.

The ships and the town have brought work and life to the quays and harbour buildings and are a particular draw for visitors.

Relaxing with a drink outside the Pier House Hotel and watching the ships in the harbour as the sun sets, is a perfect way to end your day.

We are sure that you will have a wonderful holiday at our cottage.
